READING NOW Apple’s augmented reality glasses have already started to be discussed!

As technology develops day by day, many companies attach great importance to virtual and augmented reality. One of these companies is Apple. It wants to offer a new service to its customers with augmented reality glasses. However, Apple has already begun to be criticized for the display technology it will offer in the new AR glasses.

Apple’s possible AR glasses with OLED screens have already sparked controversy!

The augmented reality glasses, which Apple is said to be working on for a long time, are said to have an OLED screen. A Samsung Display executive explained that he doesn’t believe OLED displays are good enough for augmented reality glasses.

Speaking at a tech event, Samsung Display group leader Kim Min-woo suggested that VR and AR glasses like the Oculus Quest 2 and the long-talked Apple Glasses require different displays to be successful.

Especially since augmented reality glasses communicate with the real world, their screens need to be brighter. Since OLED screens have non-illuminated pixels, they can present a darker image than LED screens. Therefore, AR glasses users may not be able to see the information on their screens comfortably.

Beyond being brighter, OLED displays need extra protective layers to ensure that water and other particles don’t spoil their organic parts. Therefore, the fact that OLED displays are thicker and heavier than LED panels made of inorganic components is also a disadvantage.

Although it has not yet been approved by Apple, the company’s AR glasses are most likely expected to be equipped with OLED panels. TSMC, which produces processors for Apple, has already started to introduce thin LED panels. On the other hand, the fact that OLED displays are more energy efficient than other derivatives may be another prominent feature for Apple. In this way, the company can equip AR and VR glasses with smaller batteries.

As you can see, OLED panels have advantages as well as disadvantages. So what do you think about OLED displays? You can share your views with us in the comments section.
