One of the issues that Apple has criticized in recent years is that it does not give up the Lightning port on iPhones. The US manufacturer would continue to insist on this point in the iPhone 14 series introduced last month. However, this will change very soon with the decision of the European Union Parliament in June.
The EU has decided that technological products such as smart phones, tablets, computers have different ports and due to the environmental waste load created by this situation, technological products that go on sale in Europe until the end of 2024 will switch to USB-C input. Apple also has to adapt to this decision. However, it seems that the company has a completely different plan on the subject.
Apple looks at iPhones with USB-C as a temporary measure
According to Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman, Apple will comply with the decision made by the EU and will include USB-C instead of Lightning in the iPhone 15 models that will be released in 2023. First of all, the new EU law applies to new portable electronic devices sold from autumn 2024. But recent reports say the tech giant will start this transition a year earlier.
This transition process will not be specific to iPhone models only. Because, in addition to AirPods, peripheral products such as Magic Mouse, Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad will now have USB-C inputs.
The company’s technological products that will be exempt from the new EU law are the Apple Watch series with wireless charging. Because these devices do not have a charging port, they will naturally not be stuck with the new EU restrictions. Here is where Apple’s original plan on the subject is hidden.
According to Mark Gurman, the company will include a USB-C port on all its new devices, especially the iPhone. However, although the exact date is not yet known, the company will remove the charging input from almost all of its devices in the coming periods and continue on its way with wireless charging. Thus, the new decision of the EU will be pierced and the life of iPhone models with USB-C input will be quite short.
So what do you think about this subject? Do you think Apple can remove the charging port from its products as claimed?
