Apple introduced a much more durable smartwatch with the Watch Ultra model it introduced last year. The durability of the watch, which stands out with the features it offers especially for those who do extreme sports, unfortunately brings with it extra weight. Apple intends to solve this problem in the new generation.
Next-generation Apple Watch Ultra will be produced with 3D printers
The current Watch Ultra, as it is known, has a weight of 61.3 grams. Considering that the Apple Watch Series 8, which has a 41 mm aluminum frame, weighs 32 grams, we can easily say that this watch, developed for those who do extreme sports, is quite heavy. However, this may change in the near future.
A Weibo user named Setsuna Digital announced that the new “Apple Watch Ultra” will be lighter than its predecessor. Apple will resort to 3D printing technology to do this. In this way, the company aims to significantly reduce the weight of the smart watch.
Although the titanium body and parts of the Watch Ultra make a great contribution to its durability, it also brings extra weight. Until now, Apple had been producing the parts it created for the Watch Ultra using CNC. From now on, it is planned to save weight by using 3D printers.
Apple has a desire to produce the three side buttons on the body of the Watch Ultra with 3D printers. It is expected that 3D printers will produce much more efficiently, reducing the production costs as well as the weight advantage. It is stated that the production speed will increase significantly with the 3D printer. Apple aims to use 3D printers in other devices in the future.
Setsuna Digital has previously come to the fore with its correct leaks about Apple. The Weibo page recently announced that Apple will launch the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus in a new Yellow color option in the spring.
Apple is expected to introduce the new generation Watch Ultra with other smartwatch models at the event to be held in September. So what do you think about the second generation Watch Ultra and the new production process? You can share your views with us in the comments section.
