Apple moved its headquarters to Apple Park in 2017. Thanks to the 17 megawatt solar panels on the roof of this campus, it continues to work with 100% renewable energy. But Apple not only decarbonises itself, but also encourages its manufacturing partners to do so. The firm announced in a statement that it plans to make all of its products carbon neutral by 2030.

Apple is decarbonizing

According to Apple’s statement, its producer partners have already reached more than 13 gigawatts of renewable energy installations. Stating that the growth is 30 percent compared to last year, the company has committed to stick to the 2030 target of more than 250 suppliers operating in 28 countries. According to Apple, as much as 20 gigawatts of renewable energy are needed to reach its 2030 goals.

Apple says that 17.4 million metric tons of CO2 emissions were averted last year alone, the equivalent of nearly 3.8 million cars being removed from the roads under the Supplier Clean Energy Program. Apple started the Green Bond program in 2016 with an investment of $4.7 billion and has paid out over $3.2 billion to date. This resource is allocated to projects that will decarbonize the supply chain. Apple cites the IP Radian Solar project, which produces 320 megawatts of electricity, as an example. The company has also invested around 500 megawatts of solar and wind in China and Japan. Making its supply chain carbon neutral or 100% renewable is an important step and responsibility for Apple, which produces millions of phones every year.
