Apple Watch with MicroLED display delayed
For those who don’t know, MicroLED production today is extremely expensive, especially with low efficiency, and it doesn’t meet most standards. At this point, it is said that Apple continues its R&D studies to facilitate the microLED panel production of the main supplier LG Display. The first product to benefit from this technology will be the Apple Watch with a MicroLED display.
If we recall, the famous analyst Ross Young last April suggested that the Apple Watch Ultra with MicroLED screen would be released in the second half of 2025 at the earliest. Today, supply chain reports from Korea have revealed that the first Apple Watch with a microLED display will launch in 2026, not 2025 as originally planned due to technological limitations in the manufacturing process.
On the other hand, according to the news from LG, we may see changes on this date. It is stated that Niketim company has made significant acquisitions, including 14 US patents belonging to Taiwanese Ultra Display Technology. These patents will enable increased throughput rates, including more reliable and precise positioning of chips.
What will the new Apple Watch Ultra offer?
As you know, Apple Watch Ultra was introduced with a 1.9-inch OLED display with a resolution of 502×410 pixels. But the switch to MicroLED will bring significant upgrades in addition to better battery life. The first of these will be better contrast, color and brightness increase thanks to pixel-level lighting.
So much so that the new generation Apple Watch Ultra is said to have a “painted on glass” feel. In addition, unlike OLED technology, MicroLED will offer advantages such as less risk of screen burn and longer lifespan. It should also be noted that these screens will be used first on the Apple Watch Ultra, then on the Apple Watch and next generation iPhone models.
