Prior to the WWDC 2022 event at the Apple Developers Conference, Mark Gurman from the Bloomberg team reported that, based on sources, Apple is working on a new feature called low power mode for watchOS 9. Now he claims that this feature will be exclusive to Apple Watch 8.
Low power mode is coming to Apple Watch
The new low power mode will allow users to continue using Apple Watch apps and features without consuming too much power. It will work similarly to the low power mode already available in iOS and macOS, which basically puts background activities on hold and throttles device performance to save battery life.
According to Gurman, Apple will roll out the low-power mode later this year. However, all Apple Watch models that will receive the watchOS 9 update will not be able to benefit from this feature.
The current Apple Watch smartwatches have a feature called power saving mode. As it is known, when this is activated, almost all Apple Watch features are turned off and only the clock is shown to save battery life. While this works for emergencies, the Apple Watch needs to be restarted to access apps and other functions.
Apple Watch Series 8 features emerge
According to recent rumors, the Watch 8 will be a minor upgrade compared to the current Series 7. Despite the larger screen, the Watch 8 will retain the same updated design as the 41mm and 45mm versions, as well as having the same internals as the Series 7 based on the Series 6. Apple is also reportedly working on a robust model for extreme sports. We may also see a new Apple Watch SE, based on the Apple Watch 6 design, with larger bezels and powered by the same processor as the Series 8.
