Apple introduced its new products and services, both in software and hardware, at its developer conference, WWDC, last week. The most notable among these was the Vision Pro, a $3500 mixed reality glasses that put the tech giant into a new product category.
The device, which has a price tag that upsets those who expect it, was announced to have two ultra-high-resolution micro-OLED screens. Although the participants of the event shared their ideas, there was not much precise information about what resolution the device would offer.
A video Sony released last year gives an idea of what kind of screen the Vision Pro might have.
The micro-OLED or OLEDoS panels of Apple’s mixed reality glasses are produced by Sony. In a video released by the company about the screens called OLED Microdisplay in 2022, it shows us how the resolution of the Apple Vision Pro will be. When we examine the video, it is seen that we can see quite good images in glasses, above the expectations of most people.
In the shared video, the company states that the screens offer 4K resolution with one eye and 8K resolution with two eyes, while conveying that a very close to reality image is given from the screens with fine details. He also adds that OLED micro displays have more than twice as many dots as smartphone OLEDs, reducing the panel size by almost 20 times.
According to Sony, if pixel dots are noticed, users feel like they’re looking at the screen. For a realistic visual experience, most of these dots need to be invisible when magnified. Here, the technology giant says that 4K OLED micro displays have been developed to meet both this and the small screen requirement.
