Apple raises lobbying spending
So much so that in 2022, Microsoft spent $9.8 million and Google spent $10.9 million. At the top of the list is Meta, the parent company of Amazon and Facebook. Amazon spent $19.7 million, increasing its lobbying activities by 2 percent last year, while Meta invested $19.2 million in lobbying activities, reducing its spending by 4.8 percent.
Five big tech firms spent a total of about $69 million on lobbying activities in the US last year. This represents an increase of about 5 percent compared to the previous year. These five companies spent overall lobbying on competition, online privacy, taxes, semiconductor policy, content moderation, climate change, immigration, and LGBTQ rights.
It is stated that the lobbying activities of five big technology companies played a role in the formation of CHIPS and Science Act laws that allow the USA to increase chip production and provide incentives. By the way, companies that are lobbying in the USA by law have to disclose them. Firms must also disclose the name of each individual acting as a lobbyist.
Alongside these giant companies, Intel announced last year that it would invest up to $100 billion to build the world’s largest chip manufacturing complex. Apparently, Intel increased its lobbying spending by 72 percent last year to $7 million. Micron, which announced that it will establish a facility in the USA, has increased its expenditures by 118 percent to $ 4.2 million.
