Federal Court of Appeals says “stop” to Epic’s request to include external purchase links within App Store apps. In the long-running and seemingly never-ending war between Fortnite maker Epic Games and iPhone maker Apple, Apple has won a major victory. The firm managed to get a “permanent injunction” against the decision, which would force it to allow external links.
The court upheld Apple’s appeal against the earlier decision, which marked Epic’s victory, and concluded that if the previous decision was complied with, it “proved sufficient evidence to prove that irreparable damage would be done to the system.” The previous decision required Apple to allow outside purchase links, buttons, e-commerce links to apps in the App Store.
Apple objected to this decision and insisted that all purchases would be made only through its current system. Apple takes a commission of 15% – 30% from every commercial transaction and does not want to lose this source of income.
