China’s smartphone market has been the world’s largest for years. This market is so competitive that only a few non-Chinese brands can survive. In the top five, there is only one non-Chinese company: Apple.

What does this year’s third quarter report say?

In this report published by International Data Corporation, it was stated that smartphone shipments in China in the quarter in question were approximately 71.13 million. This result is 11 percent less than the same period last year. The sluggish performance of the Chinese market still continues.

The market share of upper segment smartphones, which was not affected much by this stagnant performance, reached 22.4 percent in total. This statistic represents an annual increase of 1.9 percent and a monthly increase of 2.3 percent.

Among the top five selling brands during this period are Vivo, Honor, Oppo, Apple and Xiaomi. Except for Apple, all the other brands on this list are Chinese, and only Apple recorded an increase in shipments compared to the same period last year (year-on-year). All four other Chinese brands experienced declines.

in vivo

Vivo sold about 14.2 million smartphones in the third quarter of this year. This rate represents a 20.5 percent annual decline. Vivo’s market share was 20 percent, placing itself in the first place.

Its sub-brand, iQOO, stands out with its competitive price strategy. Its market share was 4.6 percent. The Vivo X series also performed well, maintaining its leadership in China’s mid-high-end market.

honor

The shipment made by Honor in this period is approximately 12.7 million units. This statistic represents a year-on-year decline of 9.1 percent and a market share of 17.9 percent. This representation placed Honor in second place.

Honor 70 series continues to increase its popularity. The same sentence applies to the Honor X40 series. Because it has a good performance optimization.

Honor Play 30 series and Honor Play 6 series continue to be important options for users who love entry-level smartphones.

Oppo

He witnessed an annual decline of 27.9 percent during this period and managed to sell approximately 11.6 million smartphones. Oppo is in third place, with a market share of 16.3%. The popularity of the Reno 8 series is increasing day by day.

The A57 and A97 duo of this brand, which maintains its leading position in the middle segment market, are Oppo’s stars in terms of shipment. Because the total sales of these smartphones exceeded 1.5 million.

apple

Apple sold approximately 10.8 million smartphones in the third quarter, up 2.5 percent year on year. The American technology firm, with a market share of 15.1%, is in fourth place. The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are pretty common in China right now.

The problems experienced in the production of these two models cause people to prefer the iPhone 13 series more in China. The fact that the supply-demand balance has not yet settled makes things difficult for Apple.

Xiaomi

Xiaomi, which is at the bottom of this list, experienced a 17.9 percent annual decline in the third quarter. Its total shipment is about 9 million units. Xiaomi has a market share of 12.7 percent.

Redmi models remain Xiaomi’s main force in the smartphone market. Especially the Redmi K50 series and Redmi Note 11 models are very popular in China. The recently launched Xiaomi 12S series has also earned a good reputation in this market.
