Apple was expected to use its own WiFi/Bluetooth chip in the 2025 iPhone 17 models. According to Kuo, Apple ran into problems developing the component that combined both WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity into a single chip. It turns out that the iPhone 15 and even iPhone 16’s WiFi 6E connection will be from Broadcom.

Kuo adds that developing a WiFi and Bluetooth combo chip is much more difficult than designing a WiFi-enabled chip. As is known, most Apple devices have Broadcom’s combo chip. This makes it difficult for Apple to include its own chipsets, which Broadcom cancels all chipsets. Due to problems with Apple’s Qualcomm patents and insufficient development resources, it will not be able to use its own 5G modem for a while.

It is said that Apple is currently developing an Apple Silicon processor that goes through TSMC’s 3nm manufacturing process. This chip is expected to offer significant improvements in performance and energy efficiency compared to its predecessors, as a lower processing node count means a higher transistor count.
