Aiming to keep the App Store as a safe and reliable place, Apple announced the actions it took last year to remove bad actors who try to defraud developers and users from the platform. The company said it stopped about $1.5 billion in fraudulent transactions in 2021.
118 million account creation attempts rejected
In 2021, Apple stopped more than 1.6 million risky and unreliable apps and app updates in the App Store. The company also closed more than 802,000 developer accounts.
The tech giant said it has blocked more than 3.3 million illegally distributed apps through its Enterprise Developer Program. More than 170 million customer accounts associated with fraud and abuse were disabled, while more than 118 million account creation attempts were rejected due to fraudulent and abusive activities.
Apple’s App Review team rejected more than 34,500 apps that contained hidden or undocumented features and more than 157,000 apps that were found to be spam or counterfeit apps. In addition, more than 343 thousand applications failed to pass inspection due to various privacy violations.

Apple, which also carries out studies on the prevention of credit card fraud, said that it will continue its inspections in the App Store without slowing down and will take new measures to keep the application store as a safe place for its users.
