Apple ARM partnership gets stronger
Apple has signed a new agreement with Arm that will last until 2040, according to initial public offering documents filed by Arm on Tuesday. It is estimated that the new agreement was signed between August 21 and September 5. Neither Apple nor Arm made a statement about the scope of the agreement, but it is understood that Apple will use the ARM architecture for a much longer time.
Apple’s ARM-based chips are found in nearly every device, from the Apple Watch to the iPhone and iPad. The company has been using Apple Silicon chips instead of Intel processors in its Mac computers for a long time. The partnership between Apple and ARM dates back well before the introduction of the first iPhone. The company first uses ARM chips in its Newton handheld computer, which was released in 1993.
Apple isn’t the only tech company looking to work with ARM long-term. Several major technology companies are interested in purchasing Arm shares, including AMD, Google, Nvidia, Intel, Samsung, TSMC.
