Apple CEO Tim Cook, in addition to announcing Apple’s earnings for the third quarter of 2023, made important speeches about the company’s progress in productive artificial intelligence. It seems Apple has been investing in productive AI for years but interestingly, we haven’t seen any products or services materialize.

It’s no secret that Apple is lagging behind

As it is known, ChatGPT developed by OpenAI is taking the world by storm. ChatGPT, which is also available as an application for iOS and Android, continues to attract high interest. However, Microsoft and Google are working on their own versions, called Bing and Bard, respectively. Microsoft has already actively made Bing AI available to everyone, and the company has even begun to integrate AI into almost all of its services. So it’s no secret that Apple is lagging behind the competition.

However, Tim Cook says Apple is looking for ways to integrate AI technologies into its products to “enrich people’s lives.” Tim Cook didn’t say anything about the rumored Apple GPT for a while, but he did explain how artificial intelligence could be used in future products:

“We have been researching a wide variety of AI technologies for years, including productive AI. We will continue to invest, innovate, and responsibly develop our products with these technologies to help enrich people’s lives. Obviously, we invest a lot, and that’s what you’re looking at. It is also seen in R&D expenditures.”

“Investing in artificial intelligence for years”

Tim Cook’s goal of productive AI may be understood, but it still remains unclear whether this technology will be integrated with Siri or whether we will get a new chatbot that can officially be called Apple GPT. Cook also touched on the investments: “We see AI and machine learning as core core technologies. And they’re embedded in nearly every product we make. We’ve been investing on a research basis in AI and machine learning for years, including productive AI.”

As for a brief summary of Apple’s third-quarter earnings, the tech giant recorded revenue of $81.8 billion, a slight decrease from the same period a year ago, while profits rose slightly to $19.9 billion. You can get more details from the relevant link above.
