Apple abandoned the fingerprint reader Touch ID with the iPhone X in 2017 and switched to the facial recognition system Face ID. It was rumored that Apple could integrate Touch ID back into its phones by embedding it under the screen. However, the new report shows that Apple has no such plans in the near future.

Apple stopped production of Touch ID chips

An integrated circuit expert on Weibo claimed that Apple has no plans to bring Touch ID to iPhones and has stopped production of the necessary chips. Since it is known that Apple is working on TrueDepth camera sensors embedded under the screen, it can be said that this information is correct.

Touch ID is currently used on iPhone SE, iPad Mini 6 and iPad Air models. The company plans to use Face ID in the new generation iPhone SE 4 model.
