We have been hearing news for a while that Apple wants to use its own 5G modems in future iPhone smartphones. The latest news from Nikkei supports this.
Earlier, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that Apple plans to move away from traditional supplier Qualcomm and move to its own proprietary modems in future iPhones. While this news, following the steps that Apple has been trying to take control of the parts produced for its own devices for years, is not surprising, the latest news from Nikkei claims that Apple can use the first 5G modem chip in its iPhones, which will be released in 2023.
Using Qualcomm’s 5G modem in the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models, Apple will probably continue to cooperate with Qualcomm on the iPhone 14, which will be introduced in 2022, and will use the Qualcomm 5G modem in these devices. However, Apple has been developing its own 5G modem behind closed doors for a while, and if we look at the news, we can see that it uses this special 5G modem in the iPhone 15, which is expected to be introduced in 2023. It is alleged that Apple is trying to negotiate with TSMC for the production of these modems. We’ll wait and see.
