Today, many Android smartphone manufacturers, especially Samsung, offer reverse wireless charging support, which allows devices that support wireless charging technology to charge other devices. Apple, which has been planning to bring this technology to iPhone models for a long time, came up once again today.

iPhone 15 could offer reverse wireless charging support

Originally in 2020, MacRumors claimed that Apple had filed an application with the FCC about the reverse wireless charging feature. But shortly after, Apple analyst Mark Gurman said that this feature is unlikely in the near term. Now a new patent issued by the US Patent and Trademark Office shows that Apple continues to work in this direction.

According to the new patent, Apple plans to use a magnet-assisted magnetic alignment system for its new wireless charging technology. As it is known, devices with wireless charging support may show insufficient performance as a result of not making proper contact with the charging surface. To solve this problem, Apple will use a magnetic mechanism in the MagSafe system that can keep the devices in line.

The wireless charging system currently on the back of iPhones is limited to a large coil that doesn’t support smaller devices like the Apple Watch. However, with the new patent, Apple may switch to a new system for Apple Watch, Mac and iPads as well as AirPods. Although it is not known when this technology will be implemented, it may appear in the iPhone 15 family, which is expected to be introduced in September.
