It seems that a feature that already exists on Android smartphones will be supported by Apple after a long wait. A new rumor claims during Apple’s annual WWDC developers conference in June that apps will get sideloading support with the upcoming iOS 17. Earlier rumors had already mentioned this feature, but no one knew when it would be rolled out. Moreover, it could be clearly seen that Apple was not very keen on this issue.

Bloomberg’s report, based on anonymous sources, states that the new feature will be Apple’s attempt to comply with the European Union’s approval of the Digital Markets Act, which was passed in 2022. This law requires devices like the iPhone to allow installation of apps from third-party sources, adding that these devices must have the required compatibility by March 2024. This will be a huge change for iPhone owners, who can only download apps through Apple’s app store, the App Store.

As it is known, iPhone users have been able to find and install applications only on the App Store since the first day. There are many third-party stores on Android, and anyone can download and install applications from any store. Android users can even install an app directly on their device via APK files.

And with iOS 17, iPhone users will have the same opportunity if there is no major setback. Third-party app stores are expected to become available. However, it is not yet known whether it can be installed directly with the installation file.
