Smartphone manufacturers have successfully extended the screen of their phones to the edges, but there is still one thing that everyone wants to do but still hasn’t quite accomplished: Hiding the front camera. Android phones have been using drop notches and punch-hole screens for years. However, the iPhone still continues to use the old layout, namely a notched structure, in this area due to the camera hardware used. Apple’s new patent, on the other hand, says once again that we may eventually see an iPhone without a notch.
Patently According to Apple’s news, the US Patent and Trademark Office has granted Apple a patent that eliminates the notch on the iPhone and positions the TrueDepth camera system behind the phone’s screen. We saw a similar technology in Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold3.
The image below shows the difference between the current iPhone camera notch and how the cameras will be hidden in the future design.
Here it can be seen that the camera can be hidden behind the screen. You can view the details of the patent here.
