Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo announced that the iPhone models that will be released in 2022 will not have the notch design that we are used to, and that the Californian giant will use a dot notch on its devices, as in Android phones. After Kuo’s statement, Jon Prosser, famous for Apple leaks, shared renders that he claimed belong to the design of the iPhone 14.
In the information shared by an account on Weibo and subsequently deleted, it was stated that Apple cannot completely abandon the use of the notch. Correctly predicting that the ninth-generation iPad will be unveiled at Apple’s event in September, the account said that it is unlikely that Apple will use a dot notch instead of a regular notch, and that there may only be a smaller notch on the iPhone 14s.
The notch was slightly smaller on the iPhone 13s
With the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro, Apple has made the notch slightly longer, although it has made the notch smaller in terms of width. Apple made this possible by reducing the component sizes of the TrueDepth camera system and reconfiguring the internal components. The company also made room in the notch this year by moving the handset to the top of the bezel.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who briefed on the design of a dot notch for next year, did not elaborate on how Apple would host FaceID on high-end iPhone 14 models if it used a dot notch design.
