According to a newly published industry report, Apple is preparing to use the USB-C port in its AirPods and Mac accessories lineup by 2024 at the latest. The transition from Lightning looks set to happen as the European Union mandates USB-C ports on new smartphones, tablets and headsets launching in the region in late 2024. Although this legislation has not yet been signed, it received approval from the European Parliament last week.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman believes that in order to comply with the upcoming rules, Apple may bring USB-C to the next generation AirPods, AirPods Pro and AirPods by 2024, and Mac accessories such as Magic Mouse, Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad may make the transition. Similarly, it is thought that Apple will replace its AirPods before EU legislation comes into effect. Although the deadline for the transition is 2025, it would not be unreasonable for Apple not to wait for this date.
However, there is no explanation or claim for iPhones yet. This shows that the company can wait for 2025 for its iPhones. However, even if Apple makes the switch to USB-C on its iPhones, the presence of this port on Apple devices is expected to be short-lived. Because Gurman claims that Apple plans to switch to inductive charging.
