According to a new leak that seems to be reliable, Apple is preparing a 30W GaN charger for this year. The owner of the claim is Ming-Chi Kuo, who shared important leaks about Apple.
According to Kuo, Apple will launch a new form factor GaN charger later this year that supports around 30W. So, what does “GaN” in the mentioned GaN charger mean?
What is GaN Charger?
GaN stands for Gallium Nitride. While this material can reach very high voltages, it is not only more efficient at transferring current, but also emits less heat and thus wastes less energy. Thus, it can transfer more energy to the device you connect to charge it.
Apple may release its next GaN charger in 2022, which supports about 30W and has a new form factor design.

We’ll have to wait and see if Apple introduces the aforementioned 30W GaN charger. Price-wise, it’s clear that it will be more expensive than Apple’s current 30W USB-C charger.
