When it comes to technological products, tablets undoubtedly have an important place among the best-selling devices. A study has been published to reveal the fierce competition in the tablet world. According to data obtained by market research firm IDC, Apple became the leader in the tablet world in 2021.

Apple sold 17.5 million tablets in the fourth quarter of 2021

Data obtained by research firm IDC revealed that Android is less preferred in the tablet world. Apple has outstripped other brands with its iPad product. The company captured 38 percent of the market share in the fourth quarter of 2021 and sold 17.5 million tablets. However, a decrease is seen when compared to the previous year. So much so that the company sold 19.1 million iPads in the same period of last year.

Apple made a significant difference to its closest follower, Samsung. Samsung sold 7.3 million tablets in the fourth quarter of 2021 with a market share of 15.9 percent. Lenovo took the third place with 4.6 million. Amazon is in fourth place with 3.6 million, followed by Huawei with 2.5 million.

The fact that Apple sells more than the sum of its other competitors made companies that make products with the Android operating system think. However, all these data show that there has been a decrease in all tablets compared to the same period last year. This is mainly due to meeting peak demand last year, according to Anuroopa Nataraj, senior research analyst at IDC. He told Nataraj about the issue:

Although 2021 was a great year for the tablet market, shipments began to slow as the market exceeded peak demand in many geographies

The analysis heading towards the fourth quarter generally reflects the year 2021 as well. So much so that Apple sold approximately 57.8 million iPads in 2021 with a 34.2 percent market share. Samsung, which sold 30.9 million tablets with a market segment of 18.3 percent, followed in the second place.

Amazon and Huawei also entered into a head-to-head struggle in this table. Having gone through a period of resisting the sanctions against it, Huawei managed to enter the top 5 despite all these negativities and sold 9.7 million tablets in 2021.
