Recently, the European Union has officially approved the regulation that makes it mandatory to use a standard input on all electronic devices, including phones. After this regulation, which was on the agenda of the world, a group of Senators in the United States sent a letter to the Ministry of Commerce and demanded that this regulation also enter into force in the USA.

Technology companies, especially Apple, offer charging connections with their own designs on many products from their smart phones to watches, and the new regulation approved by the EU is expected to affect Apple the most. Now, while it is talked about that a similar regulation will come into force in the USA, it is considered that the technology giant will say goodbye to its special Lightning entrance.

Senators sent letters to the U.S. Department of Commerce for standard entry

This decision taken by the European Union was welcomed by most of the users and it was a matter of curiosity how the rest of the world would follow. A very short time passed since the regulation was approved by the EU and the expected step came from the USA. Two U.S. Senators brought up the standard USB-C port. Senators sent a letter to the Department of Commerce for a similar policy to be implemented in the United States. The signatories of the letter, signed by prominent democrats such as Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, want it to develop a comprehensive plan to protect consumers and the environment by addressing the lack of a common charger among mobile devices. The following statements were included throughout the letter:

The European Union (EU) has passed a key law mandating electronics manufacturers to adopt a common charger for mobile devices across the EU. First, we commend the Department of Commerce for the steps it has taken to address these issues. We invite you to follow the EU’s lead by developing a comprehensive strategy to address unnecessary consumer costs, reduce e-waste and restore wisdom and precision to the new electronics purchasing process .”

It was claimed that Apple will switch to the USB Type-C port with the iPhone 15 series. There is no official statement on the subject yet, but after this issue, which is also on the agenda in the USA, Apple is expected to start producing smart devices with Type-C input, and the Lightning input may become history.
