Apple is considering entering the smart glasses market to expand its dominance in the field of wearable technology and compete with companies such as Meta. The company quietly started an internal study to achieve this goal.
Apple asked its employees to collect information for smart glasses
Apple is considering entering the smart glasses market. The technology giant started various researches, following its competitors such as Meta. Allegedly, it started a study called “Atlas” among its employees to collect opinions about smart glasses products in the market.
In group studies conducted with different groups within Apple, what users like and dislike about other companies’ smart glasses will be evaluated. According to sources, more feedback will be collected in the coming weeks. The goal will be to guide Apple’s product development process and determine the features to be included.
Developing successful smart glasses has posed major challenges so far. Although Apple launched the $3499 Vision Pro earlier this year, this product is considered too expensive for end users. Efforts to develop lighter augmented reality glasses have also run into technical hurdles.
Meta, on the other hand, stands out with its $299 Ray-Ban Stories glasses, which offer photo/video shooting and phone/artificial intelligence support, without virtual imaging capability. It is possible to say that Apple is also trying a more accessible approach.
Apple will hold meetings with its employees and learn about wearable technologies before sharing its plans.
