Although Apple has been expected to catch up with modern technologies in terms of refresh rate for a while, the company has not made much progress. Today, there was a new development on the subject, but not exactly the products you expected.

A new rumor is on the agenda that Apple is working on display technology with 90Hz refresh rate for iPad Air, Studio Display and iMac. According to the information provided by Myke Hurley and Jason Snell in The Upgrade, one of the most followed podcasts in the technology industry, Apple is now planning to increase the screens used in the iPad Air, 24-inch iMac and Studio Display models to 90Hz.

90Hz refresh rate will come to M3 iPad Air first

iPad Air, 24-inch iMac and Studio Display are equipped with screens with 60Hz refresh rate, like Apple’s other products, but Apple plans to start the transition to 90Hz refresh rate with the iPad Air model with M3 processor. According to statements from anonymous sources, Apple’s purpose in developing the LCD screen that provides this high refresh rate is to offer the user a more fluid and high-quality screen experience.

Analyst Ross Young also made some evaluations on the subject. Young claimed that Apple would use ProMotion displays with a 120Hz refresh rate in the new generation iPhone 17 series.

The iPad Air with the next-generation M3 processor is expected to be released in early 2025, but an exact date for a new Studio Display with a 90Hz refresh rate is not yet available.
