Apple has faced lawsuits many times due to App Store commissions. The Cupertino-based technology giant is now one of the parties to a class action lawsuit in the Netherlands. As part of the lawsuit led by a foundation in the Netherlands, Apple is seeking 5 billion euros in compensation.

‘The consumer suffers’

Apple was previously fined 50m euros for the Dutch antitrust regulator’s ban on the company’s alternative payment systems for violating local regulations. The new lawsuit is completely separate from this lawsuit and charges the company a much higher fee.

The foundation says that Apple’s 30% cut on paid apps and in-app purchases in the App Store is a monopolistic behavior, causing app developers to raise fees to cover costs.

Stating that higher-than-necessary fees cause harm to consumers, the foundation thinks the potential loss is approximately 5 billion euros.

Foundation wants EU consumers to participate in the class action. Apple had previously refused to make any changes to the App Store in the country after the previous penalty.
