Apple continues to expand its list of obsolete and outdated products with the iPad. The technology giant, which had previously withdrawn its support from several MacBook models, has now come to the end of the road for two separate iPads. According to Apple’s statement, more than five years have passed since these models.

Expressing that support for iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 2 will end and warning people who still use these tablets, Apple has made new additions to the list of old products. The iPad models, which met with users in 2014 and 2013, respectively, have completed their lives.

iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 2 added to legacy products list

Apple has officially confirmed that iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 2 are “legacy products”. It is stated that the two iPads added to Apple’s list of vintage products have not been on sale for more than five years. The discontinuation of support from iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 2 involves both hardware and software.

‌The iPad Air 2 model, which met with users in October 2014, was the first ‌iPad Air‌ with Touch ID fingerprint sensor. It also used Apple’s A8X chipset and had a much thinner chassis than the first iPad Air, with a 9.7-inch display. However, sales of the tablet have stalled for more than five years.

iPad mini‌ 2 was launched in November 2013. This device, nicknamed “Retina ‌iPad mini‌” due to its 2048×1536 resolution Retina display, was the same as the previous model in terms of design. The iPad mini 2 featured the A7 chipset and the secondary M7 chip, which we also saw in the iPhone 5s.

Interestingly, however, the iPad mini 3 was added to the list of legacy products by Apple last year. It’s unclear why the iPad mini 2 was later shelved.

The obsolete products list includes devices that Apple has stopped distribution for more than five years. The list, which is wide from old model iPhones to Beats headphones, applies Apple’s rules in terms of warranty.

The tech giant provides service and parts for older devices for up to 7 years or as long as required by law, but cannot guarantee parts stocks.
