Apple increased orders for Mini LED displays and added new manufacturers to its supply chain to help meet demand. The new panels are said to be for the company’s new line of devices, which is scheduled to launch in 2022.
Apple will launch iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max in purple
Apple recently started using Mini LED panels in some of its products. This includes the Pro Display XDR monitor, 12.9-inch iPad Pro and premium MacBook Pro. The company is now expected to continue expanding the use of Mini LEDs for its future products to be released in 2022. These devices can include the new 11-inch iPad Pro, 27-inch iMac Pro, the new and redesigned MacBook Air, and more.
Apple’s Mini LED display demand will continue to grow
Currently, Taiwanese supplier Epistar is the main supplier of Mini LED chips for the iPhone manufacturer. However, as Apple increases the number of devices using this display technology, it is looking to negotiate with additional suppliers. DigiTimes, one of the industry’s leading publications, states that new suppliers include Chinese company Sanan Optoelectronics, which offers prices significantly lower than current prices.
Also, Apple’s demand for Mini LED displays is expected to continue to increase in the near future. Epistar is expanding its China manufacturing facility to increase production starting in the second quarter of 2022. In addition, Sanan Optoelectronics is expected to start shipping at the same time.
