Apple, which started a modem partnership with Intel in the past years, was sued with Qualcomm afterward. After major accusations, Apple and Qualcomm reconciled, while Intel withdrew from the modem market. However, Apple, which is working to develop its own cellular modems, is not successful.

5G efforts have not been successful

Sources close to the company state that the customized 5G modem project, which Apple has been working on for a while, has not come to fruition. Apple, which wanted a more efficient and performance 5G modem, unfortunately did not get what it wanted. At least, a product is not expected for another 3 or 4 years.

The modem agreement between Apple and Qulacomm expires in 2024. Apple wanted at least 20 percent to use its own modem. Sources think that Apple will not be able to put forward a project before 2025.

The developments are naturally beneficial to Qualcomm. Qualcomm will be the sole modem provider for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 series. Already in the mobile world, Snapdragon X 5G modems are unrivaled for now. MediaTek and Samsung are not yet in a position to compete.
