In recent months, Apple has come under scrutiny by European Union officials for abusing its dominant position in mobile wallets for its payment services. Now the Cuppertino-based tech giant is facing a class action lawsuit filed on behalf of payment card issuers.

As it is known, Android users can benefit from different wallet options today, and Google does not charge payment card providers for the use of supported mobile wallets. On the other hand, Apple, which requires the touch and pay technology of Apple Pay on iOS devices, receives a certain commission from organizations for this service.
Affinity Credit Union, listed as a plaintiff in a complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, alleges that contactless payments on iOS devices are limited to Apple Pay and that Apple is engaging in anticompetitive behavior by charging payment card issuers for using the mobile wallet.

It is also stated in the lawsuit in question that Apple earned up to $ 1 billion annually from the commission fees mentioned. Arguing in May that giving access to third-party developers would pose a security risk to the European Union’s complaints, Apple did not make any statement about the new lawsuit.
