Apple’s dominance in the smartphone market continues to grow stronger. The company is significantly ahead of its competitors, especially in the premium segment. Moreover, the company maintains this dominance even in markets such as China where domestic brands are very strong. According to recent reports, Apple has reached the highest monthly market share ever in China.

One in four devices sold in China is iPhone

According to Counterpoint Research’s Monthly Market Pulse Service market research, Apple achieved the highest monthly market share ever (25%) in China in October 2022, making it the No. 1 manufacturer in the country for the second consecutive month. With the rise of Apple, sales of other manufacturers in the Chinese market decreased in the same period, while Apple recorded a 21 percent growth. On an annual basis, sales in the overall Chinese market fell 15 percent, while Apple’s sales fell only 4 percent.

Apple has been consistently reaching new heights in terms of market share in China for the past two years. Apple achieved record monthly market share in November and December 2020 and October, November and December 2021. On the other hand, 2020 is also important in that it is the year when US sanctions are imposed on Huawei.

Apple fills Huawei’s vacuum

Commenting on the market growth in China, Research Director Ethan Qi said, “The Chinese market is stagnant due to many factors, including macroeconomic pressures and COVID-19 restrictions hitting consumer sentiment. Overall sales decreased by 4% compared to the previous month. However, Apple has managed to defy the market trend. It also demonstrates the resilient nature of the premium segment.” said.

On the other hand, looking at the trend of the last two years in China, it is seen that Apple is by far the biggest winner of the market share lost by Huawei. Having become an almost undisputed leader in China’s premium segment, Apple got off to a good start this year too, with the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max outperforming the previous generation. Since the iPhone 14 is little different from the iPhone 13, the iPhone 13 models still continue to sell.
