US move from TSMC
TSMC, which prepared a $12 billion facility plan for the state of Arizona during the global chip crisis, aims to complete the project by mid-2024. The company was planning to produce 20000 plates monthly with the 5nm process in the first place, but the bands were changed to 4nm upon incoming requests. In other words, when the facility is completed, it will serve 4nm demands.
Sources state that the biggest customer of the facilities will again be Apple. Apple A-series and Apple M-series ARM chips will be produced at these facilities. Thus, the Made in USA project will be one step closer.
It is not clear whether the production, which will start in 2024, will catch up with the new generation Apple products. At the very least, it can be said that Apple will produce the chips of a certain product group, and in 2025 it will switch to US production.
