Recently, we have started to see iMessage applications for Android more frequently. One of them is Beeper Mini. Beeper Mini took a completely new approach, allowing users to log directly into their Apple ID and link their Android phone number. The company even showed how users can use it by simply linking their phone number. Interestingly, the application worked smoothly for a while, but users suddenly started experiencing login problems. Messages stopped going and not coming, and there were reports of not being able to sign in with Apple ID if reinstalled or activated on a new device. It later turned out that the application was blocked by Apple. Apple’s statement was as follows:
Why did Apple block Beeper Mini?
“At Apple, we enhance our products and services with industry-leading privacy and security technologies designed to give users control of their data and keep personal information safe. We have taken steps to protect our users by blocking techniques that use fraudulent credentials to access iMessage. These techniques posed significant risks to user security and privacy, including the disclosure of metadata and the potential to enable unsolicited messages, spam, and phishing attacks. “We will continue to make updates in the future to protect our users.”
Beeper CEO: Our app is extremely secure, we don’t understand Apple
Beeper says the app works without compromising encryption or user privacy. The company’s documents say that no one other than the user can see the content of the messages. However, Apple has not confirmed this and says the app poses risks to users and the people they chat with. The company’s founder said he didn’t understand why Apple blocked his app, saying, “If Apple really cares about the privacy and security of its iPhone users, why would it stop a service that allows its own users to send encrypted messages to Android users instead of using unsecured SMS?” posed the question.
