Apple Announces Feature That Will Convert iPhones To POS Devices

Apple has announced Tap to Pay, a new payment feature that will allow payments to be made using iPhone only. Thanks to the feature, vendors will be able to receive payments by extending their iPhone, just like a pos machine will extend their customers' iPhones or contactless cards.

Today, Apple, which offers users the opportunity to store their cards in a single place with the Wallet application, has made an innovation that will go far beyond its competitors in payment convenience. The company announced its new feature, ‘Tap to Pay’, which confirms the claims made earlier.

Thanks to the Tap to Pay feature, customers and merchants with iPhones will be able to make payments by simply bringing their phones closer together, without dealing with any card transactions or cash. In addition, merchants will be able to receive payments only on their iPhones by taking advantage of the contactless feature of MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American Express credit and debit cards.

It can be used on all models of iPhone XS and above:

According to the statement, the Tap to Pay feature can be used to integrate into applications for payment platforms and developers. Stripe will be the first platform to use Tap to Pay. Users who want to use the Tap to Pay feature will only need to have an iPhone XS and above and an iOS version that supports this feature.

After the setup phase, sellers will be able to receive payments from their customers via NFC with just one tap. The Tap to Pay feature will be protected by the Secure Element, the data protection chip used in Apple Pay. A separate and unique ID will be created for each purchase. Tap to Pay will be supported by most vendors that accept Apple Pay. The feature will be released for users in the US next spring. Also, the feature will be available for developers in the next iOS beta.
