Google Play Store has made a significant change in the app download and installation process. Now Android phone and tablet owners can see the progress of installing new apps directly on the home screen. Google was testing this feature for the first time as part of the Android 12 Beta last May.

iPhone and iPad applications installed via the App Store are also shown on the main screen. As it will be remembered, Apple made it mandatory for applications to report what kind of data they collect from users with iOS 14 in order to make the store more secure. Deciding to bring the same system to the Play Store, Google copied another feature of its rival. But this time there is an important difference.

Google Play Store made it easy to track application installation status

When the green “Install” button in Google Play Store is tapped, the application in question will be placed on the home screen immediately. Here, under the icon of the application, Pending will appear first.

In the next step, the application will start to install after the Downloading tag appears. You will be able to follow the progress through the round bar.

When you stop downloading, it will be enough to tap the application icon once. When you do this, Google Play Store will cancel the application installation process. When the download is complete, the “Installing” text will appear and it will be ready for use after that.

App Store also shows the update phase on the home screen

The biggest difference between Google Play Store and App Store: Apple’s store can show updates on the home screen in addition to downloading apps. The Play Store, on the other hand, only allows tracking of download progress. On the Android side, you can find out what stage the update is at from the Play Store.

This feature was available for a limited number of phones as we entered 2022. However, according to the information shared by 9to5Google, it has been gradually activated on all Android devices, especially the Google Pixel, as of today.

You can install the latest version of the Android market on your smartphone or tablet from Settings > About > Update Play Store. So what do you think about the new feature? You can share your views in the comments section or on the SDN Forum.
