Twitter has once again backed out from that decision less than a day after it implemented a new policy. The victim this week was Elon Musk’s sudden decision to ban external links to other social media sites.
Twitter published a blog post on Sunday announcing that free advertising on some social platforms will no longer be allowed. Then he deleted this blog. The ban included a ban that would apply to links to social media sites Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Nostr, and Post. This ban applies to both posts and posts in profile information.
Not surprisingly, Twitter users began to criticize this new policy fiercely. Musk immediately asked users if they had alternative suggestions. After some discussion, new policy information was published.
“The new blocking policy will only cover accounts opened for advertising purposes,” Musk said. In addition, he said that the changes to be made from now on will be shaped by Twitter’s polls.
After that, things got even more complicated. Musk said after a short while that “sharing a link once in a while won’t hurt.”
This latest incident once again reveals the inconsistency and arbitrariness about Twitter’s new rules.
