Now, a new one has joined the interesting images we encountered on Mars. This time, we have an ear-like crater in front of us.
Imaged as the University of Arizona MRO HiRise camera team looked at the planet with NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, this crater looks like it’s listening intently to sounds from the Martian solar system.
In a statement released by the team, which described this image as the “pareidolia” event, the event responsible for people seeing familiar things in unrelated places, it was stated that it was “almost impossible” not to see the ear when they looked at the image.
The crater is just over 1,800 meters wide and is located in an area called Chryse Planitia, a plain in the northern hemisphere of Mars. As seen in this crater, not all Martian craters have a uniform round shape.
