Apple, which has been constantly sanctioned and punished by governments in recent years, has once again been in trouble. This time, the European Union has formally appealed to Apple. The EU Commission stated that Apple’s restriction of third-party applications’ access to NFC hinders competition.
Apple’s security claims were not justified
The European Union has not yet imposed a sanction decision on Apple, but an investigation will be launched against Apple. The European Commission has stated that Apple unfairly strengthens Apple Pay by blocking access to NFC technologies. Commission vice president Margrethe Vestager stated that competing mobile payment and wallet apps must access NFC on the iPhone. Vestager states that Apple’s blocking of NFC access puts developers in serious trouble and closes the door to mobile payment alternatives.
There is a decline in iPad sales. Samsung is growing
In addition, Vestager states that Apple’s blocking of NFC access is done with the pretext of security, but according to his own research, NFC access does not cause any security risk. Let’s see if Apple will cause another European Union trouble or will it be able to get rid of this investigation.
