A former Facebook employee, whose name has not yet been released, has filed a complaint with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. First published by The Washington Post, the latest complaint alleges that Facebook misled its investors about “dangerous and criminal behavior” on its platforms, including Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger.
The former employee described a conversation in the complaint with one of Facebook’s senior communications executives, following statements about Russia’s use of the platform to interfere in the 2016 election, saying they “spoke the scandal would be breaking news.” Allegedly, the manager said, “We are currently printing money and everything is fine.”
The filing also includes allegations of illegal activity in private Facebook Groups and Facebook’s policy of allowing politicians and other high-profile users to stray from its rules.
Facebook has not yet made an official statement about the allegations of its former employee.
