iOS 17 will have a new feature that will allow users to revert their password to the previous version for up to 72 hours if they forget the new password. This option will appear if you enter an incorrect password. “Forgot password?” at the bottom of the lock screen. text will appear and when you tap this text, you will be greeted with another screen that says “Try Reset Password”. When you choose this, you can enter your previous password and then create a new one. There’s also a handy protection feature in Settings that lets you instantly expire an old password.
Risks of the new password feature
Since it’s common enough to forget when you create a new password, it’s sure to be a hit with many iPhone users when it becomes available. It will also become a time-saving feature as you don’t have to call customer service when you forget your password.
However, enabling this feature can be dangerous due to the high risk of theft of iPhones. People who know you and know your old code but not the new code can easily reset your phone and then scramble your phone to get your personal information.
Of course, safety and attention are very important at this point. If you plan to change your password, always do it at home and, if possible, alone. Never share your codes with anyone, and if you think your code has been compromised, use the protection feature that expires the previous code so you can start fresh.
Many other features and changes are also coming to iOS 17. One of them is Screen Distance, which alerts you when you hold the phone too close to your face. With this feature, Apple hopes to reduce eyestrain and myopia in children who regularly use Apple devices.
