The leaked iPhone 14 Pro case shows that the phone will have larger lenses than the iPhone 13 Pro. Images shared by South Korean leak source Lanzuk on blogging platform Naver show that all three rear cameras have grown quite significantly this year. The images clearly show how an iPhone 13 Pro fits (or fails to) fit into the case.
We can say that both of the size increases make sense, as leaks suggest that the main camera on both new Pro models will get a new 48MP sensor. The ultra-wide camera is also expected to be updated to have a sensor with 40% larger pixels.
As for the telephoto camera, we haven’t heard much yet, so it’s interesting to see all three lenses enlarged. Most leaks suggest that the telephoto camera on this year’s Pro model will be the same or very similar to the one found on the iPhone 13 Pro, meaning it will likely again offer 3x optical zoom. So there can be several different reasons for using a larger lens. One of these possibilities is that the lens isn’t actually larger and that the case is the wrong or at least oddly sized.
When making cases for phones that haven’t been released yet, a bit of guesswork is sometimes taken and the dimensions are adjusted to get the right form after the phone’s release.
Another possibility is that more changes are planned for the 14 Pro’s camera system than we’ve heard, but appearing so close to the release date, weakening this possibility.
Finally, as GSMArena points out, Apple may be trying to keep the lenses roughly the same size in pursuit of symmetry.
Apple will introduce the iPhone 14 series on September 7.
