The company, which became the number one in the smartphone world just a few years ago, had to publish its own operating system when it could not use Google Services. The operating system, called HarmonyOS, has been available on Huawei branded smartphones and tablets for a while.
However, the latest news reveals that HarmonyOS will soon be available on more devices. A statement made by Wang Chenglu, one of Huawei’s former senior executives, revealed that HarmonyOS will come to computers soon. This shows that there will be a serious competitor to Windows in the near future.
HarmonyOS will be used on PCs in 2024!
A question was asked to Chenglu on China’s social media platform Weibo: “Will HarmonyOS be available on PCs next year?”. The Huawei executive answered this question very clearly and answered “Yes”. This answer revealed that HarmonyOS will come to PCs. Let’s say that Wang Chenglu was the number one in the software team at Huawei until last year. So, the person talking about HarmonyOS is not an ordinary Huawei executive.
Although it is certain that HarmonyOS will come to PCs, there are still many things we do not know. So much so that the system requirements that this operating system will need are not clear. It is also unknown when in 2024 the operating system will reach PCs. It is not clear whether existing Huawei computers will continue to use Windows or will evolve to HarmonyOS with the update.
HarmonyOS is actually already running on PCs!
Independent developers have already run Huawei’s new operating system on PCs. In this context; The HarmonyOS operating system was run on a laptop using an Intel Core i5-8265U processor. Interestingly, there were no incompatibility issues with HarmonyOS on the Intel-based laptop. All hardware of the computer could be integrated into the operating system.
It is possible to say that this development is important. The number one in the operating system industry is undoubtedly Microsoft, but Windows is used by some users only because no alternative can be found. If HarmonyOS can offer good performance on computers, it can be a strong competitor to Windows. Of course, we will have to wait at least until 2024 to see what will happen.
