Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, which has gained a place in the industry with productions such as Call of Duty in the past months, for 68.7 billion dollars shook the gaming world. After this development, while there was a noticeable decrease in the shares of rival companies such as Sony, the first question that came to mind was whether Microsoft would give Activision Blizzard signed games to other platforms.
Microsoft is preparing to detonate another bomb very soon. According to Bloomberg’s report, the company has started negotiations to buy Ubisoft, the developer and publisher of series such as Far Cry, Assassin’s Creed and Watch Dogs.
Will Microsoft buy Ubisoft?
Microsoft’s next target is Ubisoft, which previously bought Bethesda and Activision Blizzard for astonishing numbers. For now, there has been no statement about a possible acquisition from either Microsoft or Ubisoft. However, according to Bloomberg, the talks started some time ago and are in the early negotiation stage.
The largest shareholder of Ubisoft is the Guillemot family with 15 percent. Shares of the company fell 41% last year to $5.2 billion. Therefore, a possible purchase offer may be welcomed.
By the way, Microsoft is not the only company that aspires to Ubisoft. Zira Blackstone Inc. and KKR & Co. private equity firms, such as the publisher, are closely monitoring the situation. However, no explanation has been received from potential buyers so far.
Ubisoft recently released a veiled statement after the allegations emerged. The company said that their product portfolio is wide and they can evaluate the opportunities that may arise in the sector. Although there was no clear statement about the purchase in the statement, it was largely clear that the company would give a positive response in such a case.
