Scientists conducted new research to understand the link between sleep quality and the use of phone or computer-related products before going to sleep. In fact, this kind of research has been done in previous periods and revealed that individuals who use the phone before going to sleep both have a harder time falling asleep and are tired. Such research led to widespread beliefs around the world. The new research, however, revealed contradictory results with previous ones.
A new study published in the Journal of Sleep revealed that there isn’t that important a link between sleep quality and looking at a screen before going to sleep. Scientists who connected 58 people to the EEG device and examined the sleep of these individuals while spending time with products such as phones, concluded that using a phone before going to sleep did not affect the quality of sleep much.
There were even participants who improved their sleep quality
As a result of the studies, it was revealed that the sleep quality of some users who watched something before going to sleep increased. This was not a result that was in line with the research conducted to date. Experts think that not using a phone or a different device before going to sleep, but what it is used for can affect sleep quality.
It should be noted that the results of the research published in the Journal of Sleep are not conclusive. Let us remind you once again that the study covers only 58 people. But that doesn’t mean the research is wrong. Experts, who plan to expand the scope of the study based on the new findings obtained, seem to reach healthier results.
