When the four-eared cat Midas was born with his tongue sticking out all the time and a heart-shaped scar on his stomach, it was a big surprise to the people around him. Born as a stray cat in the backyard of a family in Ankara, Midas gained attention all over the world by gaining an impressive 125,000 followers on Instagram.
This cat’s unique appearance was the result of a genetic mutation that gave it a second set of ears and a jaw that never quite fitted. However, Midas continues to develop despite its differences. According to Reuters, Veterinarian Reşat Nuri Aslan said that the condition of the cat had no adverse effects on his health and hearing, and that all his ears, small and large, were connected to the ear canal.
Midas, who was born with five siblings, immediately attracted the attention of Canis Döşemeci, who adopted him. “We never thought of buying a cat, we wanted to save a cat from the street and wanted to adopt it,” says the upholsterer.
The name Midas derives from the King in Greek mythology, who is remembered for his touch that turns it into gold. King Midas was famous for his donkey ears, which could be considered the bond between the kitten Midas, as well as being able to turn anything he touches into gold.

Midas is not alone among creatures with body parts that often appear where they are not. In a rescue operation in 2019, a puppy, now named Narwhal, had a tail on its head.
