Today, many animal lovers are setting up different platforms to help stray animals, especially cats and dogs, to feed their stomachs, to place huts where they can lay their heads in bad weather conditions, and to ensure their adoption. Unfortunately, some of them can be used for other than their intended purpose. Havrita, which has been on the agenda of social media recently, was among them.
The judiciary made the final decision about Havrita, which came to the fore with dog deaths!
In the past few years, we have encountered new applications developed by many associations and organizations. Some of these are platforms where we can donate or adopt animals, while others are about raising awareness.
Havrita practice was also known among the people as one of them. The basic logic of operation was that citizens mark the locations of stray animals they encounter on the map in the application, and even share their photos.
The aim here was for the volunteers to see the location of these animals through the application and feed them, put them in a hut or adopt them. However, for a few months, it has been determined that this application has been used much more than its purpose.
It turned out that some people torture and even kill these creatures by viewing the location of dogs whose locations are shared on the application. Moreover, even though they knew that what they did was a crime, they thanked the application and started sharing it on social media and within the platform. In other words, they used the application in the opposite direction of its purpose.
Of course, under normal circumstances, crimes committed by a few people are seen as exceptional cases. However, the frequency of this situation started to increase as there was no system to control who actually volunteered and who was an animal killer in practice.
So much so that we started to see the news that an animal was slaughtered every day. It was even seen that groupings started and these people attacked, poisoned and tortured stray animals in a planned manner.
Thereupon, Ankara 1st Criminal Court of Peace decided to close Havrita’s website as well as its iOS and Android applications. In other words, no one will be able to kill these animals whose locations are predetermined.
Although such practices have great potential, it has been seen that violence and various frauds can occur, as in this example, if there is no proper monitoring system.
