Generally, when we want to buy a smartphone, we consider how many years of software updates that model will receive. Even though some companies produce quality models in terms of technical features and design, they may not be preferred by users because they fall short in software support.

For this reason, it is important for a device to have at least two or three years of software support, to stay up-to-date and to extend its useful life a little longer. There has been a rather surprising development on this issue recently. A seven-year-old smartphone that first debuted in 2015 received an Android update.

Seven-year-old Fairphone 2 received Android 10 update

Fairphone, which started its operations in 2013 with the motto of producing smart phones that minimize negative environmental and social impacts, launched Fairphone 2 in 2015. It released Android 10 update a while ago.

Running Android 5.1 Lollipop version at the time of its first release, the smartphone has always managed to keep up-to-date on the software side, although it lags behind today’s standards in terms of hardware. Finally, Fairphone 2, which has also received the Android 9 version in the past years, started to experience the fifth major Android update with the last update.

There are some reasons why the device is always up to date. Because Fairphone is not a very active manufacturer in the industry, unlike companies such as Samsung, Xiaomi and Apple. At this point, the number of models that the company released in this nine-year period did not exceed the fingers of one hand. Thus, a new model did not come out all the time, and the existing devices were constantly updated.

So what do you think about this issue? How many years did the smartphone you use receive software support? So, are you satisfied with the updates your device has received so far? Do not forget to share it with us in the comments section or on the SDN Forum.
