Software engineer and executive Hiroshi Lockheimer, one of the most integral parts of Google, is also one of the founding members of the Android team. Criticizing Apple’s resistance to cooperating with Android and not implementing the RCS standard, which reflects its SMS, MMS and calls in its ‘application’ style in the past years, Lockheimer expressed his criticisms in a harsher tone this time.
Talking many times for even more widespread use of the RCS standard, Lockheimer discussed the impact of iMessage on users. While it is stated that an atmosphere is created as if Android users are “excluded” by iOS users, he states that Apple creates a kind of “friend pressure” and pushes them to switch to their own platforms.
‘They use peer pressure to sell their products’
In the case between Apple and Epic Games, which adorned the news headlines in the past, some statements were also made about Android. Phil Schiller, the businessman responsible for Apple’s events, declared in 2016 that “porting iMessage applications to Android would do us more harm than good”, while Craig Federight, head of the software department, used similar expressions and said, “The transition of iMessage to Android; “It means removing the barrier for families using iPhones to buy Android for their children,” he said.
Criticizing iMessage, the only platform that does not allow cross-platform messaging, on Twitter, Lockheimer also targeted previous comments and said, “Apple’s closed stance is a known strategy. It is dishonest for a company that adopts the principles of humanism and equality in its advertising understanding to try to sell its products ‘using peer pressure’ and ‘making them feel less valuable’. “There are standards to fix this,” he said.
Android also retweeted Lockheimer:
