READING NOW Android 13’s easter egg finally appeared

After a few beta releases, Android 13’s Easter Egg has appeared, and we’ve now learned how Google has added a surprise to its latest operating system update.

Google is always adding surprise eggs to Android. For example, in Android 12, the Material You theme you selected had a clock-based surprise that filled the screen with bubbles. The Android 13 surprise follows the second of these surprises, including the way you activate it, but it fills your screen with emojis, not bubbles.

For a few generations Android surprise eggs consisted of a little game like the nonogram of Android 10, but in the last few generations the situation has changed. If you want your screen to be filled with emojis, it will be enough to follow the steps below to activate the Android 13 surprise.

  • First, note that you must use a phone with Android 13 beta installed. If you’re not sure about this update, it probably isn’t installed on your phone as you have to install it yourself.
  • After installing Android 13, open the Settings app and go to About Phone. When you press the Android Version option here, if the top option says 13, you are using Android 13.
  • Then tap these 13 several times until the Settings app closes and you’re back on your phone’s home screen. A giant clock will take up most of the home screen. To advance you need to drag around the clock several times until the minute hand of this clock is set to 1 o’clock. This is a reference to Android 13 as at 1 o’clock or 1 pm.
  • At this point, the watch will turn into the Android 13 logo and a bunch of dots will appear around it. Thus, you have activated the surprise of Android 13. The only difference is that it says 13 instead of 12 in the middle.
  • After that, you have to drag your finger in a circle around ’13’ pretending the minute hand is still there. When you complete a full round, the dots will turn into emojis on a specific theme. You can change emojis by drawing more circles.

Some of the themes include monkeys, cats, astrological symbols or space and aliens. There are 14 themes in total, and we’re guessing there’s an extra one among them for obvious reasons.

Of course, there is also the possibility that this is not the surprise egg that will appear in the final version. Because it has a lot of similarities with Android 12 surprise. It will not be a surprise to encounter a new surprise egg when the final version of Android 13 is released towards the end of the year…
